If we look at Emerald in its raw form, it is a crystal we cannot see through. Crystals that are not transparent are associated with the physical world and our physical bodies, while crystals we can see through are related more to the ethereal word (the spiritual aspects of our existence). That means raw emeralds are best at aiding our physical body and everyday life.

This crystal is green in colour which is related to the heart chakra. This chakra has two colours related to it (pink and green). Pink is related more to romantic love and self-care; while green is related more to growth and learnings that can take place around this topic.

Emeralds are an extremely hard stone and that property comes through in its metaphysical abilities. That strength makes this crystal a force to be reckoned with. Emeralds can give a stronger, more powerful outcome, to other softer crystals with similar properties.

Finally, as this crystal can be cut and faceted into the emerald gemstones we know well, this also affects the properties of the crystal. As this process can be likened to the rags to riches story of Cinderella, that means emerald is good at guiding you towards your happy ending (particularly if that ending relates to the matters of the heart).

crystal myths

Christian legends suggest the emerald was used for the stone of resurrection.

There is so much information about this crystal through the ages. In particular, the Ancient Egyptians loved these stones. Cleopatra was such a fan that the emerald mines on the coasts of the Red Sea were renamed after her.

Stories suggest the Ancient Egyptians saw emeralds as a Symbol of eternal life. Other stories suggest emeralds were a symbol of great wisdom and were considered a gift from their god ‘Thoth’.

Sacred text author, Hermes Trismegistus, used emeralds on his tablets and engraved into them: As Above, So Below. That meant people believed emeralds were a link between the ethereal and earthly realm.

Around the same time, Ancient Romans saw Emeralds as a symbol of fertility and associated it with the Goddess Venus.

Then, when the Spanish invaded South America in the 14th Century, the native leaders were found wearing emeralds that surpassed anything they had seen in Egypt. Hence South America then became the main source.
